Introduction

The White Horse Ultras, use a treasured long distance path, through Marlborough, Broad Town, Cherhill, Devizes, Steeple Ashton, Bratton and Pewsey.

1865m of elevation on the 100 mile (Course Record 19:07:35)

1235m of elevation the 50 mile (Course Record 7:51:17)

670m of elevation on the 50k (Course Record 4:29:43)

 

Along the way the route passes eight white horses (five horses on the 50 mile, four on the 50k) which are cut into the hills and turf of the chalk landscape. It also visits many other historic and prehistoric locations, passing close to the start of the Ridgeway National Trail.

 

  • Hackpen (1838) located on the edge of the Marlborough Downs

  • Broad Town (1864) three miles south of Royal Wootton Bassett

  • Cherhill (1780) located east of Cherhill village beneath Oldbury Castle earthwork

  • Alton Barnes (1812) on Milk Hill, a mile north of Alton Barnes village

  • Devizes (1999) Located on Roundway Hill, overlooking the village of Roundway

  • Westbury (1778) The oldest of the White Horses located on Westbury Hill, Bratton Down

  • Pewsey (1937 set a mile south of the village

  • Marlborough(1804) Can be seen from various points around Marlborough

Our routes also pass the World Famous Avebury Stone Circle)

The 100 mile event features 1865m of elevation gain. The 50 mile event has 1235m of elevation gain. The 50K has 670m of elevation gain.

Event Details

Registration will take place in Marlborough from 6:30am - 7:45am.

You will be issued with the following :

Race Number

RFID Chip Timer

 GPS Tracking Device from Track Trail®.  

The trackers are the kind used for  D of E Tracking as well as Scout GPS Tracking, and general GPS Events Tracking.

The start is 8am. There is a 32 hour time limit which is 3.1mph. 50 mile runners expected to make the 40 mile CP at 3.1mph, and beyond that, no official time limit for the finish (just within 32 hours!)

 

This event can be used as a qualifier for:

Viking Way Ultra, C2C Ultra, The Hill Ultramarathon, Lon Las Ultra, The Tunnel UltraKing Offa's Dyke Race

  • Experienced race directors of over 100 ultramarathons

  • No pacers or walking sticks. Guide runners for visually impaired runners are permitted 

  • Support crews can meet you a minimum of 0.5 mile from any CP

Refund Policy

  • No deferrals

  • You can transfer your place to person that you find yourself. Transfer using Etchrock.com's transfer function. Once the recipient pays, you will be refunded. Merchandise is not refunded by Etchrock but is transferred to the recipient. You may have to agree a private sale if you wish to recoup those costs. Tshirt sizes cannot be changed. Whatever you originally ordered will be given to the recipient at the finish.

  • Apart from resale, no refunds unless the event is cancelled/rescheduled

Mark Cockbain

Mark is a vastly experienced ultrarunner with over 100 finishes worldwide; including multiple Spartathlon, Badwater (including double BW), GUCR, The High, JOGLE (15 days), Trans 333, Yukon Arctic 320, Thames Ring, Atacama, MDS, UTMB and many more... Marathon PB 2:53, 24hr 201k.

 

Mark transferred many of the key elements of the best races to set up Cockbain Events Ltd; an extreme set of hard to complete challenges including Viking Way, The Hill, C2C, Lon Las, The Tunnel, Chained Ultra, and Dead Sheep Race (a collaboration with Beyond Marathon Ltd)

Richard Weremiuk

Richard has many UK ultra finishes, and completed many worldwide 250k events including the MDS, Atacama Crossing, Kalahari Augrabies Extreme, La Trans Aq, Nepal.

 

Like Mark, Richard has taken the best of those races and in 2009 set up Beyond Marathon Ltd, and more recently Race Drone, TrackTrail and Events Tracking Ltd. Richard organises events such as King Offa's Dyke Race, Escape From Meriden, Deadwater, Convergence, Dusk til Dawn, The Millennium Way Ultra, The Gritstone Grind, 12 Labours of Hercules and others, as well as recent collaborations with Cockbain Events
